# Map of a site (`mttr_map`)

Updated October 24, 2026.

## What does mttr_map do?

Every page of a site’s latest read, one of three ways: as a tree by address, by links from the home page, or by meaning, with pages that read alike placed close. Any key may make this call, on any public site.

Who may call it: Any key.

## When to use it

- You want the whole site in one view.
- You want to find pages nothing links to.

## What you ask

You might say: “Map example.com as a tree.”

```
mttr_map({ site: "example.com" })
```

| Argument | Type | Needed | What it is |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `site` | Text | Yes | The site, as a domain such as example.com. |
| `view` | One of these: tree, links, meaning | No | tree (the default), links or meaning. |

## What comes back

- Each page with its state, failing rules, clicks from home and words.
- By links: the hubs, and pages no link leads to when the read was complete.
- By meaning: groups of pages, close meaning similar, never better or cited.

A sample, with made-up sites and figures:

- `/`: fails 1, Home
  - `/guides`: passes, 42 pages
    - `/guides/drain-cleaning`: fails 2, 1,240 words
    - `/guides/septic-care`: fails 1, 980 words
  - `/services`: passes, 18 pages
  - `/contact`: passes, 140 words

## Over HTTP

```
curl "https://mttr.si/api/v1/sites/example.com/map" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $MTTR_KEY"
```

## When it fails

| When | Status | What to do |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Your assistant has no key yet | 401 over MCP | Sign up with `mttr_signup`, then connect again with the key it gives. |
| mttr has no public report of the site yet | 404 | Ask for a read with `mttr_rescan`, then watch it with `mttr_job`. |
