# A site against its market (`mttr_market`)

Updated October 24, 2026.

## What does mttr_market do?

A site set against its market, or its nearest sites when it has none: its place by score, the median, and for every rule the share of pages passing here against the market median and the best site. A key may make this call on the sites it has claimed.

Who may call it: Your claimed sites.

## When to use it

- You want to know which rules matter most against your rivals.

## What you ask

You might say: “How does example.com stand in its market?”

```
mttr_market({ site: "example.com" })
```

| Argument | Type | Needed | What it is |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `site` | Text | Yes | The site, as a domain such as example.com. |

## What comes back

- Its place by score and the market’s median.
- Each rule here against the median and the best, furthest behind first.

A sample, with made-up sites and figures:

| Rule | Here | Median | Best |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Show sources on guides | 70% | 88% | 100% |
| Add a tap-to-call link | 64% | 80% | 100% |
| Describe images | 91% | 85% | 100% |

## Over HTTP

```
curl "https://mttr.si/api/v1/sites/example.com/market" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $MTTR_KEY"
```

## When it fails

| When | Status | What to do |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Your assistant has no key yet | 401 over MCP | Sign up with `mttr_signup`, then connect again with the key it gives. |
| The key has not claimed the site | 404 | Claim it with `mttr_claim`, then `mttr_claim_check`. |
