# Pages that read alike (`mttr_similar`)

Updated October 24, 2026.

## What does mttr_similar do?

Pages of a site that mean nearly the same thing, grouped, which may compete for one search. With a path, the pages nearest that page, each with the two passages that come closest. A key may make this call on the sites it has claimed.

Who may call it: Your claimed sites.

## When to use it

- You suspect near-copy pages.
- You want to link a page to the ones nearest it.

## What you ask

You might say: “Which pages on example.com read like /guides/drain-cleaning?”

```
mttr_similar({ site: "example.com" })
```

| Argument | Type | Needed | What it is |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `site` | Text | Yes | The site, as a domain such as example.com. |
| `path` | Text | No | A page, as a path such as /guides/gravel. Left out, the groups of pages that read alike. |
| `limit` | Number | No | How many to return. |

## What comes back

- Groups of pages that read alike, or the nearest pages to one.
- The passages that come closest, marked as quoted.
- A path the latest read has no meaning for answers 404.
- Close means similar in meaning, never better or cited.

A sample, with made-up sites and figures:

| What | Why | How alike |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `/guides/unclog-a-drain` | Both explain clearing a blocked kitchen drain | 91% |
| `/services/drain-cleaning` | Same subject, written as a service | 84% |
| `/guides/septic-care` | Shares the passage on what not to flush | 62% |

## Over HTTP

```
curl "https://mttr.si/api/v1/sites/example.com/similar" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $MTTR_KEY"
```

## When it fails

| When | Status | What to do |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Your assistant has no key yet | 401 over MCP | Sign up with `mttr_signup`, then connect again with the key it gives. |
| The key has not claimed the site | 404 | Claim it with `mttr_claim`, then `mttr_claim_check`. |
