Questions

What size should a share image be?

1200 by 630 pixels covers X, LinkedIn, Facebook and Slack. Keep it under 5 MB and give it an absolute address in og:image.

Why does my link show the wrong image after I changed it?

Each network keeps its own copy of a link’s preview for a while. Changing the image’s file name, or adding a version to its address, makes them fetch it again.

Do I need twitter: tags as well as og: tags?

No. X falls back to og:title, og:description and og:image. Add twitter:card only to choose the large image layout.
