mttr and OpenSEO
OpenSEO is an open-source SEO suite you host yourself: keywords, rankings, links, audits and AI visibility, on data from DataForSEO. mttr adds a free read of each page as search engines and AI assistants get it, with the fixes in order.
Keep OpenSEO. Add mttr on top.
mttr is not a replacement for OpenSEO. It is a free layer that reads your pages the way search engines and AI assistants do.
What OpenSEO is best at
- Open source and self-hostedRun it on your own servers and change it as you like.
- A full suite on your own data billKeyword research, rank tracking, backlinks and site audits, paid for through DataForSEO.
- AI visibility and MCPMentions, citations and prompts across AI models, and an MCP server for agents.
What mttr adds on top
- A reader for what code cannot countA reasoning model reads for things such as whether a page answers before it explains. It only advises; code decides.
- Fixes ranked by what they are worthEach failing rule weighed by its stage and by how many pages miss it, so the first fix is the one that moves the most.
- Signs of generated textHidden characters, chat and markdown left in, placeholders never filled and stock phrasing, page by page.
- A loop your agent runsThe plan in your agent’s words for Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, and 62 MCP tools: it makes each change, asks for a fresh read, and mttr says which rules now pass.
Which tool for which job
Both means each does a part of it.

| Crawl for technical issues | Both | OpenSEO audits on your servers; mttr reads on its own, with nothing to host. |
| Judge the writing on each page | mttr | A reasoning model reads for an answer up front; code decides. |
| Find signs of generated text | mttr | Hidden characters, chat left in, placeholders and stock phrasing. |
| Rank fixes and recheck them live | mttr | The plan in the agent’s words, then a fresh read of the live site. |

Questions
Is mttr an OpenSEO alternative?
No. OpenSEO tracks keywords, rankings, links and AI mentions. mttr does none of that: it reads each page the way search engines and AI assistants do and ranks the fixes, free.
Can one agent use mttr and OpenSEO together?
Yes. Both have MCP servers, so one agent can read rankings and prompts from OpenSEO and the fix list from mttr, then make the changes and ask mttr to check them.
Is mttr open source?
No. mttr is free to use for reading any public site, but its code is not open.
Is mttr free?
Yes. Reading any public site is free, with no sign-up: the first 100 pages, a score, its place and the fixes worth the most. An email gets a key, and the key connects your agent.

mttr sits on top of each, on the same terms.
