This one arrived on a flatbed. The impact took out the bumper, the headlight assembly, the grille surround and the front fender, and pushed the structure behind them out of position. A torn front bumper, a cracked headlight housing and a deep scrape running back into the fender. On a car like this the paint is the hard part, because white on a car like this shifts with the light and the angle you stand at. The repaired corner had to match a panel the owner sees every day.

The bumper cover was pulled away from the quarter panel and the body line behind it was buckled. Straightening the body line matters more than the bumper here, since that crease is the thing your eye follows down the side of the car.

Common Brooklyn damage and a common underestimate. Behind a bumper cover sit the reinforcement bar, the mounts and often a sensor or two, so the repair reaches further than the part you can see from the sidewalk.

## What happens between the two photos
The before and after photos are the bookends of an auto collision repair. What happens in between is a sequence, and skipping any part of it is what produces work that looks fine in the parking lot and wrong six months later.
The car comes apart first, because damage hides behind panels and a bumper cover tells you very little about what it hit. Where the impact moved the structure, we measure and pull it back to factory specification on a Car-O-Liner frame machine, which is covered on our [automotive frame repair](https://www.exclusivebodyshop.com/automotive-frame-repair/) page. Panels are then repaired or replaced, primed, and masked off, which is the stage in this photograph.
Color is mixed in-house to the vehicle's real color, sprayed with a SATA gun in a heated downdraft booth, and blended into the surrounding panels. The car is reassembled, inspected, and cleaned up before anyone calls you to collect it.

## How to read any body shop's photos
Four places repair quality shows up, on our work and on anyone else's.
### Panel gaps
The space between a door and a fender should stay the same width from top to bottom. An uneven gap means the panel is hung wrong or the structure behind it was never straightened.
### Reflections
Look at how a straight line, a fluorescent tube or a doorway, travels across the repaired panel. It should run smooth. A wobble in the reflection is a wave in the metal that filler is hiding.
### Color match
Compare the repaired panel to the one next to it in the same light. Silvers, pearls and multi-stage whites are the hardest to match, which is why blending into the surrounding panels matters.
### Texture
Factory paint has a fine, even texture. A repair that dried too fast or was sprayed in a dirty space picks up a rougher surface people call orange peel.
Damage photographed close, like this fender, is the honest kind. A wide shot from across the lot flatters a repair; a close one under shop lights doesn't.

Are these real before and after photos of your work?
Every photo on this page is a real vehicle repaired at our shop at 28 Marginal St W in Brooklyn. Nothing is stock photography and nothing is generated. Where a pair looks tightly framed, that's because we cropped both photos to the same area of the car so the slider compares like with like. Can you match the paint on my car exactly?
Matching your paint exactly is the goal on every job. Factory color drifts with sun and age, so the code alone isn't enough. We mix PPG paint in house to your vehicle's actual color, then blend into the surrounding panels so there's no hard line where new meets old. The finish is sprayed with a SATA gun in a heated downdraft booth, which keeps dust out of the clear coat and lets it cure evenly. What happens between the before photo and the after photo?
More than most people expect. We take the car apart so the damage can be measured properly, structural work is done on a Car-O-Liner frame machine where the accident moved the body, panels are repaired or replaced, everything is primed, masked and sprayed, then the car is reassembled and inspected. The two photos are the bookends. The middle is where the repair is won or lost.
Do you take photos of my repair?
We document damage as part of the estimate and the insurance claim, so there's a record of what your vehicle looked like when it arrived and what was done to it. Ask us and we will walk you through the photos of your own car. We don't publish a customer's vehicle without permission, which is why this gallery is a curated set and not everything that rolls through the bay.
Is the repair covered by a warranty?
Yes. Every repair we perform carries a lifetime warranty on parts, labor and paint, for as long as you own the vehicle. If something we repaired fails, bring it back and we make it right at no charge. New damage from a later accident is a separate repair and goes through insurance like any other. Will the repair show up on a vehicle history report?
An insurance claim creates a record, and that is outside any shop's control. What you can control is the quality of the work attached to it. A repair done to manufacturer specification with proper parts and a correct paint match protects resale value; visible bodywork and mismatched panels are what actually costs you money at trade-in time.
How bad does damage have to be before it needs a body shop?
If a panel is creased, a bumper is cracked or pushed in, a light is damaged, or a door no longer closes the way it did, bring it in.
