About the Webmaster
I am an Italian-Iranian university student trudging through a cultural heritage degree in a historic city overwhelmed by tourism. I made this website as an escape from the overwhelming cacophony of algorithms and the corporate internet. It's my very own little corner of the World Wide Web that I can shape into anything I wish. It's a love letter to my myriad of interests, and the websites that I used to browse when I was little and that have almost completely vanished over the years. This website is the first thing I ever coded from scratch! It feels very good to have created something, especially something that constantly grows and transforms as I get better at the craft and as I continue to add to it :-)
Some fun facts about me:
- I speak Italian, English, Farsi, and French (though I still have to learn to write in Farsi and my French is rusty!)

It feels very good to have created something, especially something that constantly grows and transforms as I get better at the craft and as I continue to add to it :-) Some fun facts about me: - I speak Italian, English, Farsi, and French (though I still have to learn to write in Farsi and my French is rusty!) - My *nom de plume* Astrophel means "star lover." I chose it because I love stars :-) - I like to collect peculiar things, and you can find some of my collections on this site! --- --- ##### My hobbies and interests I have a truly excessive amount of hobbies and interests, and I have dabbled in a lot of things. I can't engage with all of them at once, so I do a sort of crop rotation (joke stolen from tumblr). I get bored of things easily, but at the same time there are things that hold a special place in my heart and that I inevitably return to after putting them down for a while, even years sometimes! I have listed them here. **Arts and crafts.** Creating is my *raison d’être*. I love to draw, though I draw less than I used to nowadays. I mostly draw digitally, but I also like to sketch on paper and make illustrations with colour pencils and watercolours. I also have been getting into needlework these past couple of years, mostly sewing, knitting, and crochet, though I have also done a little cross-stitch and other embroidery. I also like to write, both poetry and prose, fiction and nonfiction. **Antique and rare books.** I have studied the history of books as part of my university studies, but my interest in them started when I was little. I've been collecting them for many years now. My oldest book is from the 1750s! My proudest acquisition is a first edition of Richard Le Gallienne's *The Worshipper of the Image*, a book that I read by chance and that deeply intrigued me. I like books that have something peculiar about them, even if they're not sought after by collectors. **History.** This is another interest I have had the opportunity to study more in depth in university. I'm particularly interested in cultural history, and especially fashion and costume history. My favourite subjects are the Etruscan civilization, the French Revolution, and the Belle Époque, though I'm broadly interested in the 18th and 19th centuries. **Historical fashion.** I have always been fascinated by the question, what did people wear in the past, and what did it mean? I believe that our clothing is art, and it is imbued with meaning, even when we don't consciously give it one ourselves. When I was little I was obsessed with the Victorian era, but my current favourite eras of fashion are the 18th century broadly (for menswear), the Belle Époque, and the 1920s. I'm also currently learning about the development of Persian fashion during the Qajar dynasty. I have a small collection of antique garments that you can visit in the [Armoire](https://star-thorns.neocities.org/armoire/historical.html). **Lolita and ouji.** Lolita fashion means a lot to me. I've been interested in it since I was very young, but couldn't dress in it until relatively recently, though I kept up with the community as a lurker. My favourite substyles are old school, classic, and gothic. I'm especially inspired by the early days of the fashion. My wardrobe is currently made up of mostly vintage offbrand, handmade, and upcycled pieces (currently working on oujifying all my pants with worn out knees). **Singing voice synthesizers.** I've been interested in voice synthesis since around 2011. I've used mostly UTAU, but I have tried Vocaloid as well. At a time when synthesized voices sound more and more human every day, I like to play around with synth voices that sound undeniably artificial. If you want to listen to my UTAU covers and check out my voicebank (WIP), visit the [Laboratory](https://star-thorns.neocities.org/laboratory.html). I must warn you that even though I've been into this for a long time, I'm not very good haha! ##### Link me!
