A tank water heater installation from Trident's project library.

Changes in performance can point to a developing problem. Schedule a service visit if your water heater is showing any of these signs.

- No hot water or water that stays lukewarm.
- Water temperature fluctuations or hot water running out too quickly.
- A leaking water heater or discolored hot water.
- Unusual smells, tastes, or noises.
- Reduced pressure or a heater taking longer than normal to produce hot water.

Inside the tank

## What is the most common problem with water heaters?

![A wall-mounted Navien tankless water heater with copper pipework and gas connections](https://tridentplumbingllc.com/_astro/media/images/v3-svc-heater-800.fa4622246d.webp)

A finished tankless water heater installation.

An accumulation of sediment inside the tank is a common water heater issue. Buildup can reduce heating efficiency and contribute to unusual noises. Periodic flushing is one part of maintaining a tank water heater.

Sediment is only one possible cause. A professional inspection can distinguish a maintenance need from a faulty component or a tank that has reached the end of its useful life.

A clear diagnosis

Different faults can produce similar symptoms. Heating elements, a thermostat, valves, gaskets, fittings, or the tank itself may need attention. Gas and electric models also have different components.

Rather than guessing from a symptom, our team checks the system and explains the repair options. We also provide maintenance and replacement services when those are the appropriate next step.

Why does my water heater keep turning off?

The cause depends on the type of heater. Electric models may have a circuit or thermostat problem, while gas models can have pilot or thermocouple issues. A qualified technician should inspect the system to determine the cause.

Do you repair both tank and tankless water heaters?

Yes. Trident Plumbing & Drain provides repair and maintenance services for traditional tank and modern tankless water heaters.

Can sediment cause water heater noise?

Sediment buildup inside a tank can contribute to unusual noises and reduced performance. Our team can inspect the heater and determine whether flushing or another repair is needed.
