mttr and Google Analytics
Google Analytics shows what people do once they arrive: where they came from, the pages they land on, and whether they go on to buy or ask. mttr shows what search engines and AI assistants get from those pages before anyone arrives. Both are free.
Keep Google Analytics. Add mttr on top.
mttr is not a replacement for Google Analytics. It is a free layer that reads your pages the way search engines and AI assistants do.
What Google Analytics is best at
- Where visitors come fromTraffic by source, visits referred by assistants such as ChatGPT among them when the assistant passes a referrer.
- Landing pages and key eventsThe pages people arrive on, and which lead to a sign-up, a call or a sale.
- Explorations and audiencesPaths, funnels and segments built from your own events.
- Joined to Google’s other toolsSearch Console, Google Ads and BigQuery linked to the same data.
What mttr adds on top
- Pages read as an AI crawler gets themThe words in the HTML before any script, whether robots.txt and the firewall let GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot in, and one address for each page.
- One rulebook, 44 rules in four stagesCan a machine reach the page, understand it, believe it and act on it. Every rule comes with its fix.
- Fixes ranked by what they are worthEach failing rule weighed by its stage and by how many pages miss it, so the first fix is the one that moves the most.
- A loop your agent runsThe plan in your agent’s words for Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, and 62 MCP tools: it makes each change, asks for a fresh read, and mttr says which rules now pass.
Which tool for which job
Both means each does a part of it.
| Job | Use | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Count visits, and where they came from | Google Analytics | Counted by a tag on every page. |
| See which pages lead to sales or sign-ups | Google Analytics | Key events, by landing page. |
| See visits sent by AI assistants | Google Analytics | As referrals, when the assistant passes one on. |
| See what crawlers and assistants get from a page | mttr | Crawlers run no tag, so analytics cannot see them. |
| Make sure a page offers a next step | mttr | The Act stage: a way to get in touch, and a phone number that dials. |
| Rank what to fix first | mttr | Each failing rule weighed by its stage and how many pages miss it. |

Feature by feature
| What | mttr | Google Analytics |
|---|---|---|
| Built for | Making each page readable, believable and actionable for search engines and AI assistants, and handing the fixes to your agent. | What visitors do on a site: where they came from, the pages they land on, and what they go on to do, from a tag on every page. |
| Reads and audits a site | Yes, the first 100 pages of any public site, on mttr’s servers, with nothing to install. | No. It counts visits from a tag; it does not read pages. |
| What AI crawlers get | Yes: the words in the HTML before any script, whether robots.txt and the firewall let AI crawlers in, and one address for each page. | No. Crawlers run no tag, so they are not counted. |
| Judges the writing | Yes: a reasoning model reads for what a rule cannot count, such as whether a page answers before it explains. A model only advises; code decides. | No. |
| MCP server | Yes, 62 tools, with a key an email gets. | An official server from Google, marked experimental, that reads reports through its API. |
| Fixes handed to an agent | Yes: the fixes worth the most in your agent’s words, and each fix read again on the live site once it ships. | Through that server an agent reads reports; nothing checks a fix. |
| Links from other sites | No. mttr keeps no index of links from other sites. | No. |
| Keywords and rankings | No. | Not itself; Search Console can be linked. |
| Mentions in AI answers | Not built yet. | Partly: visits sent by assistants show as referrals when the assistant passes one on. |
| To start | Free. Reading a site needs no sign-up. | Free; Analytics 360 is paid. |

Questions
Is mttr a Google Analytics alternative?
No. mttr counts no visitors. Google Analytics measures what people do on a site; mttr checks what search engines and AI assistants get from its pages, and ranks the fixes.
Can I use mttr with Google Analytics?
Yes. Find the landing pages that bring visits and sales in Analytics, fix them from mttr’s plan, then compare the weeks after.
Why can’t Google Analytics see AI crawlers?
Analytics counts a visit when the page’s script runs, and crawlers such as GPTBot do not run it. The free AI crawler checker shows which of them robots.txt lets in.
Is mttr free?
Yes. Reading any public site is free, with no sign-up: the first 100 pages, a score, its place and the fixes worth the most. An email gets a key, and the key connects your agent.

mttr sits on top of each, on the same terms.
